In several of her writings Ellen White said that the book Daniel and the Revelation was truth. She even went as far as to say that God used the author of Daniel and the Revelation to communicate light and direct minds to the truth. Now if Mrs. White had instructed us that God, yes, even GOD had used this author, Uriah Smith, to communicate light and truth for the modern times, then how can we doubt that it was truth, or that the figures as explained in the book could be mistaken? She even said that, “The interest in Daniel and the Revelation is to continue as long as probationary time shall last.” Keep in mind that the discussion pertaining to the modern day present truth identification of the King of the North in the book Daniel and the Revelations is contained in between the pages starting from the last paragraph on page 280 and ending on page 293. In those pages you will find that the King of the North is clearly defined as Turkey.
1MR 62.3
God desires the light found in the books of Daniel and Revelation to be presented in clear lines. It is painful to think of the many cheap theories picked up and presented to the people by ignorant, unprepared teachers. Those who present their human tests and the nonsensical ideas they have concocted in their own minds, show the character of the goods in their treasure house. They have laid in store shoddy material. Their great desire is to make a sensation. 1MR 62.3
These first three quotes are sequential from Manuscript Releases Vol. 2 pgs. 62.3 through 63.1, but I will be commenting after each one, because each one presents doctrinal points of vital importance.
It is God’s Desire that Daniel and the Revelation be Presented in Clear Lines
First of all in 1MR 62.3 it says that God desires the light found in this book Daniel and the Revelation to be presented in clear lines. I must ask, would anyone think that Mrs. White would make such a statement as profound as that if it were not true? She is presenting this as God’s desire. How could anyone say that unless they were someone who God communicates through or who occupies the office of a true prophet? Has it not been demonstrated that God has communicated through Mrs. White time and time again? Did not Mrs. White pass the test of being a true prophet? Is she a prophet or not? Be careful when you answer that question, because to say that she was not a true prophet would be to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
Furthermore these statements are fundamentally centered around and specifically defining what true prophetic interpretation of Daniel and Revelation is, and her statement that it is His desire that this book be presented in clear lines implies that these truths come from God. These are not cheap theories, human tests, nonsensical ideas or shoddy material presented by an ignorant and unprepared teacher! If they were not true that would make Sister White a false prophet, but they are true and we know that because she was given the gift of prophesy. A true prophet will never give a false prophesy.
As we continue on in the previous quote above we can see that in the next sentences Mrs. White describes those who present ideas contrary to what is in the book Daniel and the Revelation are presenting, cheap theories, human tests, nonsensical ideas and shoddy material which they have concocted in their own minds to satisfy their desire for sensationalism. Notice the bolded word treasure in that first quote above. She says that this shoddy material exposes the true character of the goods in their treasure house which is a reflection upon {Matthew 12:35}. We all know that false prophesy is evil and what is going to happen to the false prophet in the end.
1MR 62.4
The truth for this time has been brought out in many books. Let those who have been dealing in cheap sentiments and foolish tests, cease this work and study Daniel and the Revelation. They will then have something to talk about that will help the mind. As they receive the knowledge contained in this book, they will have in the treasure house of the mind a store from which they can continually draw as they communicate to others the great, essential truths of God’s Word. 1MR 62.4
Notice that in this second quote that Mrs. White basically instructs those who are dealing with these cheap sentiments need to repent from their sin and study the book Daniel and the Revelation. In so doing they will store up a good treasure by which they can communicate the essential truths for this time. She even implies that a store house of truth treasured will help the health of the mind as opposed to communicating false prophesy which is poison.
1MR 63.1 The interest in Daniel and the Revelation is to continue as long as probationary time shall last. God used the author of this book as a channel through which to communicate light to direct minds to the truth. Shall we not appreciate this light, which points us to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, our King? 1MR 63.1
In this third quote Mrs. White demonstrates that these truths will remain truth until the end of probationary time. Secondly it shows that God directed Uriah Smith’s mind to communicate these truths which will stand as long as probationary time shall last. It was Uriah Smith who recorded the fact that Daniel 11 was a literal prophesy and it was God who who directed his mind to do so. To say otherwise would be borderline blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, because was it not the Holy Spirit who led Uriah Smith into all truth?
Daniel and the Revelation 222.2
We now enter upon a prophecy of future events, clothed not in figures and symbols, as in the visions of Daniel 2, 7, and 8, but given mostly in plain language. Many of the signal events of the world’s history, from the days of Daniel to the end of the world, are here brought to view. This prophecy, says Bishop Newton, may not improperly be said to be a comment and explanation of the vision of chapter 8; a statement showing how clearly he perceived the connection between that vision and the remainder of the book. {Dan & Rev 222.2}
Now we’ll look at a quote give by Sister White which defines how the Bible is to be studied and interpreted.
