Bible Interpretation

Before we look at how the Bible interprets itself, I should mention that there was a scholarly man who established 14 rules of Bible interpretation. This man, William Miller, was not a scholar by profession, nor by a secular standard of education. He became a scholar through the practice of studying the Bible. This man was William Miller and he produced the 14 rules of Bible Interpretation and they led up to an event known as the “Three Angel Messages” in Seventh Day Adventist history. One very significant point is that speaking of William Miller in the first paragraph of the chapter titled, “William Miller,” in her book “Early Writings“, Ellen White said the Angels of God repeatedly visited William Miller to guide his mind and give him understanding of Biblical Prophesy. This is the greatest reason I find that William Miller’s 14 Rules of Bible Interpretation are so significant. Early Writings pg 229 par 1 God sent His angel to move upon the heart of a farmer who had not believed the Bible, to lead him to search the prophecies. Angels of God repeatedly visited that chosen one, to guide his mind and open to his understanding prophecies which had ever been dark to God’s people. {EW 229.1} There seem to be many varying gospel interpretations in today’s Christian … Continued

The Gospel Truth

The Gospel is the good news that Jesus came to die for our sins and to restore the image of God in mankind. It was Satan’s studied purpose to destroy the image of God in man. By the same token it must be your studied purpose to restore the image of God into your own person. How do we do that? Well of course you cannot do it yourself, but you must rely on Jesus to accomplish it for you. We can do nothing without Jesus. John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. Does this mean that we don’t have to do anything to be saved but just believe in Jesus. Certainly it does not. According to the Bible we have a part to play. We must have faith in God the Father and His Son Jesus our Savior. Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. So what is faith? How do we put our faith in God? James explains it very well. James 3:17-26 17 Even so … Continued

The Law of God Has Not Changed

Habakkuk 3:6 He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting. Here is Habakkuk the prophet of old shows that God’s ways are everlasting. So not only is God everylasing, but his ways are everlasting. If God changed then He would not be everlasting, but he would become something new and so he would not really be everlasting, but a new thing that started at a certain point in time, but He does not change and even His ways are everlasting. James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Jesus also never Changes. Jesus is one with God and was with God from the very beginning. Matthew 5:17-20 17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the … Continued

Neither Greek nor Jew

This article has a curious title. In spite of the fact that they are slightly different, it comes from two different references in the Bible. The first is Colossians 3:11, and the second is Galatians 3:28. Galatians 3 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. The purpose of this article is to establish the fact that the law and faith are the same for both the Jews and the Gentiles. Most adventists would agree that the law of God is still in force for both Jews and Gentiles. On the other hand, many non Adventist believers are convinced that the law was only for the Jews. If you are among the camp that believes that the law was only for the Jews, then please review this article as I am confident that it will contain overwhelming evidence, if not proof, that the law is the same today as it was in the beginning of human history, and that it applies equally to both the Jews and the Gentiles, both before and after the Cross. If you … Continued

Man Shall Live –
By Every Word Of God

Mathew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

The words of Christ reveal that men are required to live by every divine precept. Take note of how Jesus used the word, “every.” Is that not a qualifying word? If you say that man shall live by some of God’s words, well then that would certainly not qualify as to what Jesus was specifying. So we can’t just live by some of God’s words. We must live by every word.

Note also that Jesus compares it to eating bread. Most people would agree that Jesus is referring to eating food in general. We all know that we could live to a ripe old age and never eat grains in our entire life. Even the word “artos” which is the word Matthew used and which was translated into the word bread can mean any kind of food in general. This same application also applies to the English version of the word bread. The nutrition found in grains can after all be found in other foods. If someone excludes bread from their diet they won’t die, but if they don’t eat any food at all, before long they will surely die. So is not Jesus implying that if man does not live by “every” word of God, then he will surely die? This is obviously the case. To put it concisely a disciple of Jesus cannot disregard even one of the divine principals in the Word of God. Continue Reading
