Nothing Should be Said or Done as a Violation of the Holy Sabbath

When the Sabbath begins, we should place a guard upon ourselves, upon our acts and our words, lest we rob God by appropriating to our own use that time which is strictly the Lord’s. We should not do ourselves, nor suffer our children to do any manner of our own work for a livelihood, or anything which could have been done on the six working days. Friday is the day of preparation. Time can then be devoted to making the necessary preparation for the Sabbath, and to thinking and conversing about it. Nothing which will in the sight of Heaven be regarded as a violation of the holy Sabbath should be left unsaid or undone, to be said or done upon the Sabbath. God requires not only that we refrain from physical labor upon the Sabbath, but that the mind be disciplined to dwell upon sacred themes. By conversing upon worldly things, or by engaging in light and trifling conversation, we virtually transgress the fourth commandment. Talking upon anything or everything which may come into the mind, is speaking our own words. Every deviation from right brings us into bondage and condemnation…. {GW92 207.1} God has given men six days wherein to labor, and He requires that their own work be done in the six working days. Acts of necessity … Continued

Sabbath School 2-10-24

Acts of the Apostles pg. 51.2 and 8 others search “Holiness is not rapture:” It is not a conclusive evidence that a man is a Christian because he manifests spiritual ecstasy under extraordinary circumstances. Holiness is not rapture: it is an entire surrender of the will to God; it is living by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God; it is doing the will of our heavenly Father; it is trusting God in trial, in darkness as well as in the light; it is walking by faith and not by sight; it is relying on God with unquestioning confidence, and resting in His love. {AA 51.2} Thoughts From the Mount of Blessings pg. 149.1 and 5 search “Holiness is not rapture:” We build on Christ by obeying His word. It is not he who merely enjoys righteousness, that is righteous, but he who does righteousness. Holiness is not rapture; it is the result of surrendering all to God; it is doing the will of our heavenly Father. When the children of Israel were encamped on the borders of the Promised Land, it was not enough for them to have a knowledge of Canaan, or to sing the songs of Canaan. This alone would not bring them into possession of the vineyards and olive groves of the goodly land. … Continued

Matthew 18:15-17 is in Reference to Personal Tresspasses

Sabbath my husband spoke in the forenoon, and I followed for two hours before taking food. The meeting was then closed for a few moments, and I took a little food, and afterward spoke in a social meeting for one hour, bearing pointed testimonies for several present. These testimonies were generally received with feelings of humility and gratitude. I cannot, however, say that all were so received. {2T 14.2} The next morning, as we were about to leave for the house of worship to engage in the arduous labors of the day, a sister for whom I had a testimony that she lacked discretion and caution, and did not fully control her words and actions, came in with her husband and manifested feelings of great unreconciliation and agitation. She commenced to talk and to weep. She murmured a little, and confessed a little, and justified self considerably. She had a wrong idea of many things I had stated to her. Her pride was touched as I brought out her faults in so public a manner. Here was evidently the main difficulty. But why should she feel thus? The brethren and sisters knew these things were so, therefore I was not informing them of anything new. But I doubt not that it was new to the sister herself. She did not … Continued

Importance of the Sabbath

While some have been urging their man-made tests upon the people, the claims of the fourth commandment have been held very lightly. We knew that the blessing of God could not rest upon this church until there was a reformation upon this important point. Those who stand in responsible positions should be careful that their words and example are such as will lead the people to correct views and practices. They should be sure that in no way they belittle the requirements of God. Because the fourth commandment is so widely disregarded, we should be the more earnest and decided in seeking to honor this precept of God’s holy law. The third angel’s message is that which we are to present to the world. Here God has a test for us, and if we come up to the standard, we shall be a peculiar people. Whoever obeys the fourth commandment will find that a separating line is drawn between him and the world. The Sabbath is a test, not a human requirement, but God’s test. It is that which will distinguish between those who serve God and those who serve him not; and upon this point will come the last great conflict of the controversy between truth and error. {HS 215.2} Among our people generally in these kingdoms, the Sabbath … Continued

Books of a New Order

In some of our important books that have been in print for years, and which have brought many to a knowledge of the truth, there may be found matters of minor importance that call for careful study and correction. Let such matters be considered by those regularly appointed to have the oversight of our publications. Let not these brethren, nor our canvassers, nor our ministers magnify these matters in such a way as to lessen the influence of these good soul-saving books. Should we take up the work of discrediting our literature, we would place weapons in the hands of those who have departed from the faith and confuse the minds of those who have newly embraced the message. The less that is done unnecessarily to change our publications, the better it will be.—Manuscript 11, 1910 (Published in Selected Messages 1:165). {10MR 49.3} Satan is Always Ready to Encourage Anything That Would Lead to a Loss of Confidence in Our Literature Representations have passed before me which indicate that you [A. G. Daniells] and Elder [W. W.] Prescott and others united with you have been inclined to search out things to be criticized or condemned in our printed publications. Were encouragement given you, changes and revisions would be made in accordance with the ideas that you have in mind. But … Continued

Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation

The canvassing work is one of the Lord’s appointed agencies for extending the knowledge of the truth for this time. Canvassers have an important work to do. The Lord can and will work through them if they will earnestly prepare themselves to do what they can. The effort made to circulate Christ’s Object Lessons is demonstrating what can be done in the canvassing field. To those who are working with this book, I would say, After the immediate necessity is met, do not lose your zeal, feeling that there is no further need for special effort. Sell the book wherever you can, and bring our larger books to the notice of the people. {1MR 60.4} Especially should the book Daniel and the Revelation be brought before people as the very book for this time. This book contains the message which all need to read and understand. Translated into many different languages,it will be a power to enlighten the world. This book has had a large sale in Australia and New Zealand. By reading it many souls have come to a knowledge of the truth. I have received many letters expressing appreciation of this book. {1MR 60.5} Let our canvassers urge this book upon the attention of all. The Lord has shown me that this book will do a good work in … Continued

Accountability

If We are Led Astray for Lack of Searching the Scriptures We will be Held Accountable It is not enough to merely read, but the Word of God must enter into our hearts and our understanding, in order that we may be established in the blessed truth. If we should neglect to search the Scriptures for ourselves, that we may know what is truth, then if we are led astray, we are accountable for it. We must search the Scriptures carefully, so that we will know every condition that the Lord has given us; and if we have minds of limited capacity, by diligently searching the Word of God we may become mighty in the Scriptures, and may explain them to others. —The Review and Herald, April 3, 1888. {Ev 366.1} God Holds Us Accountable for Failing to do All the Good We Could have Done Many are deceived as to their true condition before God. They congratulate themselves upon the wrong acts which they do not commit, and forget to enumerate the good and noble deeds which God requires of them, but which they have neglected to perform. It is not enough that they are trees in the garden of God. They are to answer his expectation by bearing fruit. He holds them accountable for their failure to accomplish … Continued

What is Righteousness and What is Not?

Psalm 119:172 172 My tongue shall speak of thy word: for all thy commandments are righteousness. Psalm 119:172 clearly explains to us what righteousness is. All of God’s commandments are Righteousness. Reciprocally we can say that Righteousness is all of God’s commandments. So if all of God’s commandments are righteousness, do we have righteousness if we write God’s commandments down on a piece of paper and put the paper in our pocket, or must we actually keep God’s commandments in order to be righteous? In light of Romans 3:10-12, can anyone be righteous? Romans 2:10-12 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Paul says there is none that understandeth, nor seeketh after God, they are all gone out of the way and are unprofitable. Notice that in verse Romans 3:12 that He writes in the last phrase, that “there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” So does this mean that what we do has something to do with being righteous? So is he talking about righteousness by works? I think not. Another name for God’s commandments is … Continued

There is No Respect of Persons With God

Acts 10:34-35 34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. Here Peter says that God is no respecter of persons. When reading Acts chapter 10 in it’s entirety we can understand that even the Apostles of Jesus were mistaken in their belief that salvation was for the Jew only. Peter says that God accepts those, of every nation, who do two things. Those who fear God, and those who worketh righteousness. Among believers, most will easily understand what it means to fear God. {Proverbs 9:10} On the other hand it may behoove us to look a little deeper into the Word of God to see what it means to “worketh Righteousness.” That would be a little off topic for this discussion. To see what it means to “worketh Righteousness,” please visit the following article: What is Righteousness and What is Not? Is God a Respecter of Persons According to Paul? Romans 2:11-16 11 For there is no respect of persons with God. 12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; 13 … Continued

The Time of the End

It is true that in the time of the end, when God’s work in the earth is closing, the earnest efforts put forth by consecrated believers under the guidance of the Holy Spirit are to be accompanied by special tokens of divine favor. Under the figure of the early and the latter rain, that falls in Eastern lands at seedtime and harvest, the Hebrew prophets foretold the bestowal of spiritual grace in extraordinary measure upon God’s church. The outpouring of the Spirit in the days of the apostles was the beginning of the early, or former, rain, and glorious was the result. To the end of time the presence of the Spirit is to abide with the true church. {AA 54.2} Some pastors say that we have to wait for the time when the Holy Spirit will be poured out to do the work that the Lord has called us to. That is a false doctrine. Sister White tells us in the quote above that the Holy Spirit is to abide with the church to the end of time. 2nd Thessalonians 2:3 talks about the falling away, but that is speaking of the false Church. God’s true church was to remain true and pure and the Holy Spirit was to abide in it unto the end of time. In the … Continued
