Bible Definition and Symbolism for Prophecy or the Prophetic Gift Bible Symbolism for Prophecy Isaiah 29:10 10 For the Lord hath poured out upon you the spirit of deep sleep, and hath closed your eyes: the prophets and your rulers, the seers hath he covered. 1st Samuel 9:9 9 (Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.) Isaiah 30:10 10 Which say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits: Each one of these verses refer to prophets as seers. What do we see with? The eyes. Isaiah 20:10, Samuel 9:9 and Isaiah 30:10 show clearly that Prophecy or the Prophets are the Eyes of the Body of Christ. We can look at 1st Corinthians chapter 12 which illustrates how the gifts of the spirit are related to the parts of a body. This is God’s Word, and so it is God and/or Jesus, the Word of God, who is illustrating it to us thus according to His design. We will not use every scripture in 1st Corinthians chapter 12, but a selection that applies to this discussion. If … Continued

The Shaking Taken From Early Writings by Ellen White

This entire page, starting with the quotation marks below, is all taken from a chapter in the book with a title of Early Writings by Sister Ellen White. You can see the respective page numbers and paragraph number of each paragraph in that book and the end of each paragraph. I saw some, with strong faith and agonizing cries, pleading with God. Their countenances were pale and marked with deep anxiety, expressive of their internal struggle. Firmness and great earnestness was expressed in their countenances; large drops of perspiration fell from their foreheads. Now and then their faces would light up with the marks of God’s approbation, and again the same solemn, earnest, anxious look would settle upon them. {EW 269.1} Angels of Heaven Continually Wafting Their Wings Evil angels crowded around, pressing darkness upon them to shut out Jesus from their view, that their eyes might be drawn to the darkness that surrounded them, and thus they be led to distrust God and murmur against Him. Their only safety was in keeping their eyes directed upward. Angels of God had charge over His people, and as the poisonous atmosphere of evil angels was pressed around these anxious ones, the heavenly angels were continually wafting their wings over them to scatter the thick darkness. {EW 269.2} Angels of God Lift … Continued

Josiah Litch

The trumpets of history sounded to alert people of the final judgments, to call them back into covenant relationship. They were designed to call people to repent but “they repented not of their sins.” The Book of Revelation reveals Christ working out the provisions of God’s Covenant in the Last Days. It also reveals Christianity’s Response to that Covenant by Ulrike The Sixth Trumpet and the Millerites If“In 1838 Josiah Litch, a preacher in the Millerite movement, made the interesting prediction that the Ottoman Empire would fall on August 11, 1840. His prediction was based upon his reading of Revelation nine, and the text, …”were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year”…. Following established guidelines of applying a day for a year, he realized this was 360 +30 + 1 = 391 years. Revelation 9: 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. His prediction, which appeared in the book (The Probability of the Second Coming of Christ about A.D. 1843) was widely circulated in New England. Skeptics predicted Miller’s … Continued

Papal Pronunciation of Social and Econimic Matters with Supreme Authority

This is a statement about Pope Leo XIII written by Pope Pius XI in his Encyclical Quadragesimo Anno published on May 15, 1931 “That principle which Leo XIII so clearly established must be laid down at the outset here, namely, that there resides in Us [the Papacy] the right and duty to pronounce with supreme authority upon social and economic matters.” Pope Pius XI, Ecnyclical Quadragesimo Anno, May 15, 1931, paragraph 41 This is a quote from the Council of Trent which was held between the years of 1545 and 1563: “All temporal power is his; the dominion, jurisdiction, and government of the whole Earth is his by divine right. All rulers of the Earth are his subjects and must submit to him.” John W. Robbins, Ecclesiastical Megalomania, p. 131 This is a quote from, “The Political Ideas of St. Thomas Aquinas,” “In order that spiritual matters might be kept separate from temporal ones, the ministry of this [spiritual] kingdom was entrusted not to earthly kings but to priests and expecially to the highest of them, the successor of St. Peter, Vicar of Christ, the Roman Pontiff, to whom all kings must be subject just as they are subject to our Lord Jesus. For those whom the care of an intermediate end pertains should be subject to him to whom … Continued

God’s Remnant Church Will Acknowledge God’s Law and Have the Prophetic Gift

Revelation 12:17 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. “And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” This prophecy points out clearly that the remnant church will acknowledge God in His law and will have the prophetic gift. Obedience to the law of God, and the spirit of prophecy has always distinguished the true people of God, and the test is usually given on present manifestations. {LLM 33.5}

God Gave the Testimonies to Bring His People Back to the Word of God

“Brother J would confuse the mind by seeking to make it appear that the light God has given through the Testimonies is an addition to the word of God, but in this he presents the matter in a false light. God has seen fit in this manner to bring the minds of His people to His word, to give them a clearer understanding of it.” [Testimonies for the Church 4:246 (1876).] The word of God is sufficient to enlighten the most beclouded mind and may be understood by those who have any desire to understand it. But notwithstanding all this, some who profess to make the word of God their study are found living in direct opposition to its plainest teachings. Then, to leave men and women without excuse, God gives plain and pointed testimonies, bringing them back to the word that they have neglected to follow.” [Testimonies for the Church 2:455 (1870).] The word of God abounds in general principles for the formation of correct habits of living, and the testimonies, general and personal, have been calculated to call their attention more especially to these principles.” [Testimonies for the Church 4:323 (1879).] {5T 663.2} If You Studied God’s Word to Reach Christian Perfection You Wouldn’t’ve Need the Testimonies If you had made God’s word your study, with a desire … Continued

The Heart that Loves God Supremely, will Not in Any Way be Inclined to Narrow Down His Precepts

The law of Jehovah is exceedingly broad. Jesus … plainly declared to His disciples that this holy law of God may be violated in even the thoughts and feelings and desires, as well as in the word and deed. The heart that loves God supremely will not in any way be inclined to narrow down His precepts to the very smallest possible claims, but the obedient, loyal soul will cheerfully render full spiritual obedience when the law is seen in its spiritual power. Then will the commandments come home to the soul in their real force. Sin will appear exceedingly sinful…. There is no longer self-righteousness, self-esteem, self-honor. Self-security is gone. Deep conviction of sin and self-loathing is the result, and the soul in its desperate sense of peril lays hold on the blood of the Lamb of God as his only remedy…. {OHC 140.2} Many are deceiving their own souls today. They restrict the injunctions of God to condemn outward acts alone, and do not consider it sin to dishonor God in thoughts and affections. They flatter themselves that they are keeping the law of Jehovah while their life and character as daguerreotyped [photographed] in the books of heaven reveal them as venturing to see how far they can go in the direction of wrongdoing without being branded as … Continued

The Testimony of Jesus Christ is the Spirit of Prophecy

What is the Testimony of Jesus Christ?: It is the Spirit of Prophecy: Revelation 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ. According to Pastor Bohr, a better translation is, “and possess the testimony of Jesus Christ”, as opposed to, “and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.” See the definition of the word “have” in Revelation 12:17 at the bottom of this page. So the end time Remnant Church will keep the commandments of God and they will have the testimony of Jesus Christ. So what is the testimony of Jesus Christ? Revelation 19:10 10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy. Notice that the angel said that he is the fellow servant of John and his brethren who have the testimony of Jesus Christ, and that testimony is the Spirit of Prophesy. Revelation 22:9 9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, … Continued

Beholding We Become Changed

It is a law both of the intellectual and the spiritual nature that by beholding we become changed. The mind gradually adapts itself to the subjects upon which it is allowed to dwell. It becomes assimilated to that which it is accustomed to love and reverence. Man will never rise higher than his standard of purity or goodness or truth. If self is his loftiest ideal, he will never attain to anything more exalted. Rather, he will constantly sink lower and lower. The grace of God alone has power to exalt man. Left to himself, his course must inevitably be downward. {GC 555.1}

True Holiness is Wholeness in the Service of God

True holiness is wholeness in the service of God. This is the condition of true Christian living. Christ asks for an unreserved consecration, for undivided service. He demands the heart, the mind, the soul, the strength. Self is not to be cherished. He who lives to himself is not a Christian. {COL 48.4} Love must be the principle of action. Love is the underlying principle of God’s government in heaven and earth, and it must be the foundation of the Christian’s character. This alone can make and keep him steadfast. This alone can enable him to withstand trial and temptation. {COL 49.1} And love will be revealed in sacrifice. The plan of redemption was laid in sacrifice—a sacrifice so broad and deep and high that it is immeasurable. Christ gave all for us, and those who receive Christ will be ready to sacrifice all for the sake of their Redeemer. The thought of His honor and glory will come before anything else. {COL 49.2} If we love Jesus, we shall love to live for Him, to present our thank offerings to Him, to labor for Him. The very labor will be light. For His sake we shall covet pain and toil and sacrifice. We shall sympathize with His longing for the salvation of men. We shall feel the same tender … Continued
