The Church and the World United

After this I saw Satan consulting with his angels and considering what they had gained. True, they had, through fear of death, kept some timid souls from embracing the truth; but many, even of the most timid, had received the truth, and thereupon their fears and timidity immediately left them. As these witnessed the death of their brethren and beheld their firmness and patience, they knew that God and angels assisted them to endure such sufferings, and they grew bold and fearless. And when called to yield their own lives, they maintained their faith with such patience and firmness as caused even their murderers to tremble. Satan and his angels decided that there was a more successful way to destroy souls, one that would be more certain in the end. Although Christians were made to suffer, their steadfastness, and the bright hope that cheered them, caused the weakest to grow strong and enabled them to approach the rack and the flames undaunted. They imitated the noble bearing of Christ when before His murderers, and by their constancy and the glory of God which rested upon them, they convinced many others of the truth. {EW 226.1} Satan therefore decided that he must come in a milder form. He had already corrupted the doctrines of the Bible, and traditions which were to … Continued

Our Work

Here is the following quote Ellen White explains specifically what our work is to be: Testimonies 8 pg 9 par 1 What is our work? The same as that given to John the Baptist, of whom we read: “In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.” {Matthew 3:1-3}. It is very common these days that is a Christian tells someone they are sinning they will be met with the response that they are being judgmental, but this is not consistent with the word of God. The word of God and the Spirit of Prophesy tell us that we are to give a message of repentance to the world and the church as is demonstrated in the quote above. Testimonies For the Church vol 8 pg 10 par 2 note that this quote starts in the 4th sentence of paragraph 2 Every obstacle to the redemption of God’s people is to be removed by the opening of His word and the presentation of a plain “Thus saith the Lord.” The true light … Continued

The Church and the Power Promised

Testimonies 8 19.4 ( Note that this is only the last sentences of the paragraph. I would encourage everyone to read the whole chapter and all of the Testimonies for the Churches ) The prophecy was fulfilled: The weak shall be “as David,” and the house of David “as the angel of the Lord.” Every Christian saw in his brother the divine similitude of love and beneveolence. One interest prevailed. One subject of emulation swallowed up all others. The only ambition of the believers was to reveal the likeness of Christ’s character and to labor for the enlargement of His kingdom. {8T 19.4} Testimonies 8 20.3 To us today, as verily as to the first disciples, the promise of the Spirit belongs. God will today endow men and women with power from above, as He endowed those who on the Day of Pentecost heard the word of salvation. At this very hour His Spirit and His grace are fo all who need them and will take Him at His word. {8T 20.3} Notice that it was after the disciples had come into perfect unity, when they were no longer striving for the highest place, that the Spirit was poured out. They were of one accor4d. All differences had been put away. And the testimony borne of them after the Spirit … Continued

The Church

Testimonies for the Churches Chapter 1 Present Opportunities page 11.4 – 11.6 The church of Christ is God’s agency for the proclamation of truth; she is empowered by Him to do a special work; and if she is loyal to God, obedient to His commandments, there will dwell within her the excellence of divine power. If she will honor the Lord God of Israel, there is no power that can stand against her. If she will be true to her allegiance, the forces of the enemy will be no more able to overpower her than is the chaff to resist the whirlwind. {8T 11.4} There is before the church the dawn of a bright, glorious day, if she will put on the robe of Christ’s righteousness, withdrawing from all allegiance to the world. {8T 11.5} The members of the church need now to confess their backslidings and press together. My brethren, allow nothing to come in that will separate you from one another or from God. Talk not of differences of opinion, but unite in the love of the truth as it is in Jesus. Come before God, and plead the shed blood of the Saviour as a reason why you should receive help in the warfare against evil. You will not plead in vain. As you draw near to … Continued
