Constantine the Great

Constantine the Great (February 27, 272 AD – May 22, 337 AD) won the Battle of the Milvian Bridge which led him on the path to become the sole emperor of the Roman Empire. Battle of Milvian Bridge Before the Battle of the Milvian Bridge Constantine claimed he had seen a cross emblazoned on the sun and hear a voice tell him, “In this sign conquer.” Actually there are a few different renditions of what Constantine saw and heard from Wikepedia: Maxentius organized his forces—still twice the size of Constantine’s—in long lines facing the battle plain, with their backs to the river. Constantine’s army arrived at the field bearing unfamiliar symbols on either its standards or its soldiers’ shields. According to Lactantius, Constantine was visited by a dream the night before the battle, wherein he was advised “to mark the heavenly sign of God on the shields of his soldiers … by means of a slanted letter X with the top of its head bent round, he marked Christ on their shields.” Eusebius describes another version, where, while marching at midday, “he saw with his own eyes in the heavens a trophy of the cross arising from the light of the sun, carrying the message, In Hoc Signo Vinces or “with this sign, you will conquer”; in Eusebius’s account, Constantine … Continued

Who are The Least of These?

Obviously, “The Least of These,” is referring to Matthew 25:45, but who are the Least of These? When Jesus was speaking He was describing the time when, “the Son of man shall come in his glory.” He spoke of separating the sheep from the goats. He then says: Matthew 25:45 45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. When he is speaking of the Least of These, can he be speaking of the goats. Surely not since these are the ones who were to be sent off into eternal punishment. So who can the Least of these be unless they are those sheep who follow Him. Yes of course He is speaking of His disciples. Some would even say that He is referring to the lost sheep who are not following the Lord, and they may very well be correct. Nevertheless, isn’t the definition of a disciple one who adheres to the discipline of his master or teacher? Who is to Preach the Gospel?

Many people believe that the Gospel is to be preached by the Ministers of the Gospel and that they really have no responsibility to preach the Gospel themselves. They think that if they give a tithe and offerings to the work of God they have satisfied their obligation. Let’s look at what the Spirit of Prophesy and the Testimony of Jesus Christ has to say about this. Thestimonies 8 pgs 15.5 – 16.2 The commission given to the disciples is geven also to us. Today, as then, a crucified and risen Saviour is to be uplifted before those who are without God and without hope in the world. The Lord calls for pastors, teachers, and evengelists. From door to door His servants are to proclaim the message of salvation. To every nation, kindred, tongue, and people the tidings of pardon through Christ are to be carried. [T8 15.5} Not with tame, lifeless utterance is the message to be given, but with clear, decided, stirring utterances. Hundreds are waiting for the warning to escape for their lives. The world needs to see in Christians an evidence of the power of Christianity. Not merely in a few places, but throughout the world, messangers of mercy are needed.
