Why Should We Understand Prophesy?

So why should we understand prophesy? Eschatology is the study of end time events. Basically it’s the study of Biblical prophesy in our case. The two books of the Bible that are most concerned with end time events are Daniel and the Revelation of Jesus Christ ( the last book in the Bible ). The fact that Daniel and The Book of Revelation speak of end time events means that they are books of prophesy. Is it really all that important that we know and understand prophesy? Let’s look at what they Bible says to answer that question: The Prophesies are a Sure Thing 2nd Peter 2:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts: Here Peter telling us we have a more sure word of prophesy. More sure than what? The three verses previous to this one (16, 17 & 18) tell us. In the same chapter Peter refers the time when he, James and John witnessed the Majesty of Jesus on the mount of transfiguration. and they heard a voice from the Father saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” What Peter … Continued

William Millers 14 Rules of Bible Interpretation

Those who are engaged in proclaiming the third angel’s message are searching the Scriptures upon the same plan that Father Miller adopted. In the little book entitled “Views of the Prophecies and Prophetic Chronology,” FatherMiller gives the following simple but intelligent and important rules for Bible study and interpretation:– {RH, November 25, 1884 par. 23} “1. Every word must have its proper bearing on the subject presented in the Bible; 2. All Scripture is necessary, and may be understood by diligent application and study; 3. Nothing revealed in Scripture can or will be hid from those whoask in faith, not wavering; 4. To understand doctrine, bring all the scriptures together on the subject you wish to know, then let every word have its proper influence; and if you can form your theory without a contradiction, you cannot be in error; 5. Scripture must be its own expositor, since it is a rule of itself. If I depend on a teacher to expound to me, and he should guess at its meaning, or desire to have it so on account of his sectarian creed, or to be thought wise, then his guessing, desire, creed, or wisdom is my rule, and not the Bible.” {RH, November 25, 1884 par. 24} The above is a portion of these rules; and in our study … Continued

How to Overcome and have Victory over Sin

How do We Overcome Sin? Ultimately, trusting in God is the answer to that question, but how do we trust in God? Trust is very akin to faith. As a matter of fact, thesaurus.com lists faith as a synonym of trust. If we have faith in something, then it’s like saying we believe it will work and/or do what we expect it to do. If we have faith in God, then we will believe that trusting in what He tells us will succeed in the object of what we are trusting in His word for. So how do we get faith? Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Basically what the Word of God is saying is that you get faith by reading the Bible. It says hearing, but that is because in ancient times knowledge was passed on through oral tradition. As human memory degraded because of sin over the centuries, it became necessary for men to write things down. So hearing is accomplished by someone who reads the Bible and teaches it. Furthermore, Paul the Apostle understood that the duty of the Church was to preach the Gospel to all Nations. So when he wrote hearing, he was just illustrating the nature of the church and their duty to broadcast … Continued
